How it works
- We set up a read-only database user or reporting copy that exposes only the tables you approve.
- Metabase is connected to it, and tables and fields are given clear, friendly names.
- Users ask questions by choosing data, filters and groupings, or write SQL if they know it.
- Useful questions are saved into dashboards and can be emailed on a schedule.

Good to know
- Metabase has an open-source edition you can host yourself, and paid editions with extra features, sold by Metabase.
- Permissions in Metabase decide who can see which tables, so sensitive data such as salaries can be kept to the right people.
- A self-hosted instance needs updates and backups like any other server.
