We connect document storage in your system to Dropbox folders.
Some businesses and many of their clients already exchange files through Dropbox. Keeping the documents there, while the business system knows which file belongs to which client or job, avoids a second copy of everything and lets people keep sharing the way they are used to.
What we build with it
- Storing client and matter documents
- Sharing folders with external parties
- Document backup
How it works
- When a new client or job is created, the system can create a matching folder under your business folder in Dropbox.
- Files uploaded to the record are saved into that folder, and the file reference is stored on the record.
- Sharing from the system creates a Dropbox share link or folder invitation for the chosen person.
- Generated documents can be copied into Dropbox automatically as a backup.
Data exchanged
- Files and folder structure
- Share links
- File metadata
What is needed to set it up
- A Dropbox account, ideally a business team account
- OAuth authorisation
- A designated business folder
Good to know
- Storage is billed by Dropbox on your own plan, and files count against that plan's allowance.
- Access can be limited to a single app folder, so the system cannot see the rest of your Dropbox.
- Share links can be set with expiry dates or passwords on plans that support them, which is useful for sensitive documents.
