We connect document storage in your system to folders in Google Drive.

Many teams already keep their files in Drive and share them with clients from there. Rather than asking them to move everything, we link Drive files to the records they belong to, so a document opened from the system is the same one your team edits and shares in Drive.

What we build with it

  • Storing matter and case documents against a client
  • Attaching purchase and expense proofs to entries
  • Sharing document folders with a client or colleague
  • Backing up generated documents

How it works

  1. When a new client, case or project is created, the system can create a matching folder in your chosen Drive location.
  2. Files uploaded through the system are saved into that folder, and the file link is stored on the record.
  3. Generated documents such as invoices or reports can be copied into Drive automatically.
  4. Sharing a folder from the system applies the permission in Drive, so access is managed in one place.

Data exchanged

  • File contents and names
  • Folder structure
  • Sharing permissions
  • File links

What is needed to set it up

  • A Google account with Drive access
  • OAuth authorisation
  • A designated root folder, ideally on a shared drive, for business documents

Good to know

  • Files count against the storage of the Google account or shared drive they sit in, so storage is managed and paid for through your own Google plan.
  • Google reviews applications that ask for broad access to Drive. We request only the access the feature needs.
  • A shared drive keeps files with the organisation when an employee leaves, which a personal My Drive does not.
